The mission of East Detroit Public Public Schools Special Services Department is to prepare each student with a disability to function at their maximum potential, and to facilitate and support their inclusion in school, work, and community life where they accept responsibility, enjoy high self-esteem, and are productive, successful and independent citizens. 

Commitment

East Detroit Public Schools are committed to providing students with disabilities a free and appropriate public education consistent with federal and state laws. East Detroit Public Schools offer evaluations, programs, and services to individuals who are identified as having, or who are suspected of having, a disability as defined in either the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. These services are available to eligible person’s ages 0-26 who reside within, or attend a K-12 school program within the East Detroit Public Schools attendance boundaries.
